Joan McQuillan (living donor, 70 yr. old)
After all the tests were completed I was delighted when I was told that my kidney would be suitable to be transplanted into my sister Jackie.
I went into hospital on Sunday and the operation took place on Monday morning. After the very successful operation I felt uncomfortable rather than in pain and was able to manage without painkillers. I was extremely impressed with the aftercare and attention that was shown to me by the surgeon, medical and nursing staff who looked after me while I was in hospital.
I was at home again after a few days and had to take it easy for a while to give my body time to heal and regain my energy. I am now back to full health, I walk every day, and have been away on holiday!
